Building Good Habits in Your Life
What makes successful people successful?
We would all love to go to the local supermarket and pick up a bottle of Success. But let us put that fantasy aside for a moment and find out one of the most fundamental reasons why people become successful.
Now think of someone you know personally who is successful. Can you imagine that person's face? Good.
Now ask yourself this question: "Does this person have a successful routine or set of habits that make her successful?" I would be shocked if she did not.
Sometimes the only difference between success and average is having successful habits. Some examples of successful habits would be: getting up earlier, getting things done when they need to be done, being prepared, or effective time management.
So how can you start building these successful habits in your life? Here are four tips for creating successful habits:
1. Identity: Find the areas in your life that need to be changed. Write down the new habits you need to create. Do not overwhelm yourself trying to figure out how you are going to create all of these habits.
2. Choose: most people sabotage themselves by trying to change everything at once. Instead, pick one big habit and one small habit that you want to create. Over the next 30 to 90 days, these will be the success habits that you create.
3. Start small. Now that you have your two success habits, create a daily or weekly routine that is easy to follow. For example, let us say you want to get up an hour earlier so you can get more successful things done. Instead of setting your alarm clock an hour earlier at the very beginning, set it just 2–5 minutes earlier each morning until you reach your goal. This way, it would take you 30 days or 12 days to develop your success habit.
Remember that the best way to eat an elephant is to bite by bite.
4. Repeat: Once you have created your new habits, move on to the next two successful habits you want to create. Before you know it, you will have created a whole new set of success habits.
Just imagine where you will be in a year if you follow these four keys to creating successful habits. If it only takes you 60 days to create two habits, you will have created 12 successful habits in just one year!
